Water Supply Advisory for Maynilad Customers

Since February this year, our water allocation from Angat Dam has been steadily reduced because of El Nino.  Since then, we have been able to manage the decreasing supply through a number of mitigating measures.

For the month of July, our allocation has been cut by 30% and as a result around 46% of our customer base have experienced reduced water pressure and/or shortened water supply schedules.  Of those affected, around 10% may be classified as severely affected, having 0 to 6 hours of water.

Among those severely affected by the July reduction are 22 barangays in Quezon City, 13 barangays in Caloocan City, 4 barangays in Malabon, 4 barangays in Valenzuela City, 2 barangays in Las Pinas City, and 1 barangay in Navotas.

To ease the water supply problem in the above areas, we have been conducting regular system adjustments in our pipe distribution network. We have also deployed 28 water tankers, installed 5 stationary water tanks, reactivated 4 deepwells and recovered over 113 MLD (million liters per day) of water since February through our intensified leak repair program.

While we have been doing our best to mitigate the effects of the 30% water supply reduction, we are significantly constrained by the prevailing circumstances. Water level in Angat Dam continues to recede and no sufficient rainfall has fallen over the said dam.

We would like to assure our customers, however, that we are continuously looking for ways to mitigate the effects of the water supply reduction.

Among the extraordinary measures we will be implementing effective immediately are the following:
•    Hiring of additional private water tankers to provide free water supply
•    Sourcing of additional water supply from the East Zone
•    Implementation of rotating water supply schedules in the central and northern part of our concession area

We will continue to identify and implement other technical and extraordinary measures as the need arises.  Our Zone Management teams will also go around the different barangays that will be affected by the rotating water supply schedule to inform them of the supply window.  We will also make the supply schedule available to the public through the media, Smart Infoboard, email blasts and Maynilad Hotline 1626.
