Maynilad, the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base, was conferred the Balikat ng Bayan Award by the Social Security System (SSS) for being one of the country’s 30 outstanding employers for 2009.
Maynilad earned the distinction as the 2009 Top Employer in the NCR Central Cluster, Large-sized Category, for ensuring the social security protection of its employees through compliance to social security law, timely and accurate submission of reports, and active participation in the programs of SSS.
Launched in 1995, the Balikat ng Bayan Awards are given to exemplary individuals, organizations and institutions that helped SSS fulfill its mandate.
Since Metro Pacific Investments Corporation and DMCI Holdings, Inc. took over Maynilad in 2007, the water company has generated employment opportunities for over 194,000 people with its aggressive service improvement projects in the West Zone. This is a remarkable increase of 136% from the 82,000 jobs generated by the previous owners from 1997 to 2006.
Maynilad is currently applying for a term extension that will allow the company to increase its investments up to P560 billion and provide jobs for up to 200,000 Filipinos a year.
