National workshop on water efficiency measures slated

Water and environmental professionals from all over the country gathered this month to enhance their capacities on water accounting methods for sustainable water resource management in the Philippines.
 
Organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and in cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), National Water Resources Board (NWRB), and the Philippine Water Partnership (PWP), the “National Workshop on Water Accounting and Efficiency Measures” was held last January 27, 2012 at the Sulo Hotel in Quezon City.
 
The event was also done in cooperation with the Maynilad Water Academy, which focuses on capacity building among water utility professionals and organizations, as well as on educating the public and key stakeholders on developments and technologies regarding water and sanitation practices.
 
The workshop was designed to help public and private sector representatives learn about the use of water accounting tools for developing more sustainable water strategies. It addressed questions on how to perform water accounting and how it can contribute to better water governance.
 
Experts in the field shared their knowledge on interesting and relevant topics such as water management in agriculture, water initiatives at the international level, and regional companies’ experience in water efficiency.
 
The final output of the workshop was to achieve improved water management in the public and private sector, enhancing their water quality, productivity and efficiency.
