Maynilad’s relief efforts continue after Pepeng

Maynilad, the private water concessionaire for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, continues its relief operations to help victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.

The two typhoons brought record-breaking rainfall and unprecedented flooding that ravaged many areas in Metro Manila, Southern Tagalog, and Northern and Central Luzon.

From September 29 to October 2, a team of volunteers from Maynilad, their family members and the Philippine Air Force worked together to produce over 7,000 5-gallon containers of potable water for the victims of Ondoy. And even after the onslaught of Typhoon Pepeng, Maynilad continued to produce thousands of 5-gallon containers in order to bring drinking water to affected communities in the West Zone, East Zone and Northern Luzon.

“Over 500 of Maynilad’s employees were victimized by Ondoy, but despite the significantly reduced workforce we were able to restore water supply to normal levels in the West Zone and launch relief operations the day after Ondoy first hit Metro Manila.  This is a testament to our Company’s commitment to delivering potable water, whatever the circumstances.” said Cherubim Ocampo, Head of Corporate Affairs and Public Relations of Maynilad.

As of October 15, Maynilad had already given more than 12,500 5-gallon containers and 25,000 bottles of potable water, focusing on areas that are short in potable water supply due to floods and damaged infrastructure.

Maynilad also delivered bottled water to Lingayen, Pangasinan, where families have been displaced by typhoon Pepeng. A Mobile Water Treatment Plant was also stationed by the water company in Bayambang, Pangasinan, to treat around 1,500 gallons of deepwell water a day for the safe consumption of the affected residents.

Among the companies and organizations which helped Maynilad distribute potable water to the calamity victims were the Philippine National Red Cross, the Philippine Medical Association, National Disaster Coordinating Council, DMCI Homes, ABS-CBN Foundation, GMA Kapuso Foundation and PLDT Smart Foundation.  Maynilad also provided LGUs with potable water for their constituents.
