West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is installing drink-wash stations in 50 public schools this year through its Lingkod Eskwela Program, benefitting some 120,000 elementary and high school students.
Lingkod Eskwela is Maynilad’s flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) program that provides drink-wash facilities and refurbishes water and sanitation facilities in public schools. It aims to promote good health through proper hygiene among students.
Since Lingkod Eskwela was launched in 2008, about 1.2 million students in 441 schools have already benefitted from improved water access and better sanitation facilities through the program.
This year’s Lingkod Eskwela kicked off with the inauguration of a drink-wash station in Buhay na Tubig Elementary School in Imus City, Cavite, which has more than 2,000 students.
“Convenient access to potable water is essential for schoolchildren to avoid getting illnesses brought by drinking unclean water. When we prevent water-borne diseases, students won’t have to skip school days, and miss out on the knowledge and opportunities that can lead them toward a brighter future,†Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez said.
Maynilad’s Lingkod Eskwela is done in partnership with the WinS (Water and Sanitation in Schools) Program of the Department of Education, which aims to capacitate schools in enforcing correct hygiene and sanitation practices among its students.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
