West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) installed 70 drink-wash stations in 70 public schools this year through its Lingkod Eskwela Program, benefiting some 170,000 elementary, high school and college students.
Lingkod Eskwela is Maynilad’s flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) program that aims to promote good health through proper hygiene among students. This it does by installing drink-wash facilities and refurbishing water and sanitation facilities in public schools.
Since the program’s inception in 2008, about 950,000 students in 365 schools all over the West Zone have already benefited from improved water access and better sanitation facilities.
One of the most recent recipients of this year’s Lingkod Eskwela drink-wash stations is the Malinta Elementary School in Valenzuela City, which has over 5,000 students.
“Reliable access to potable water is essential to create an environment that is conducive for learning. By giving water access through our Lingkod Eskwela drink-wash stations, students can avoid getting diseases that would make them skip school days, and miss out on the skills they would otherwise be learning,” Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez said.
Maynilad’s Lingkod Eskwela is done in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) to support the agency’s WinS (Water and Sanitation in Schools) Program, which aims to capacitate schools in enforcing correct hygiene and sanitation practices among its students.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
