West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) installed 50 drink-wash stations in 50 public schools last year through its Lingkod Eskwela Program, benefiting some 166,000 elementary and high school students.
Lingkod Eskwela is Maynilad’s flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) program that aims to promote good health through proper hygiene among students. This it does by installing drink-wash facilities and refurbishing water and sanitation facilities in public schools.
One of the most recent recipients of Lingkod Eskwela drink-wash stations is the Las Piñas National High School in Daniel Fajardo, Las Piñas City, which has over 5,000 students. Present to lead the inauguration were Las Piñas National High School Principal Phondora Capistrano, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Loreta Torrecampo, Barangay Daniel Fajardo Chairman Robert Cristobal, Camille Villar, and City Councilor Mark Anthony Santos (representing Mayor Imelda Aguilar).
Since the program’s inception in 2008, more than 1.2 million students in 441 schools all over the West Zone have already benefited from improved water access and better sanitation facilities. For 2019, Lingkod Eskwela is set to install 50 drink-wash facilities in 50 schools within its concession area, which will benefit about 150,000 more students.
“Having access to potable water is important so that students can prevent diseases caused by poor sanitation. Through our Lingkod Eskwela program, we strive to give our youth a healthy environment that is conducive for learning,” Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez said.
Maynilad’s Lingkod Eskwela is done in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) to support the agency’s WinS (Water and Sanitation in Schools) Program, which aims to capacitate schools in enforcing correct hygiene and sanitation practices among its students.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
