Heavy rainfall brought by Typhoon Ompong has caused a significant increase in the turbidity (concentration of sediments) of the raw water in Ipo Dam. This has constrained us to reduce the water production of our treatment plants. Consequently, some of our customers experienced emergency service interruptions yesterday. We have deployed 47 water tankers to deliver water to these affected areas.
Our water production will stay at reduced levels until rainfall over the Ipo watershed dissipates and the sediments in the raw water of Ipo Dam settle. To optimize the limited supply, we are constrained to implement service interruptions daily, starting today Sept. 16 (Sunday) until Sept. 18 (Tuesday). Affected areas include some barangays in Meycauayan and Obando (Bulacan), Valenzuela, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Quezon City, Manila, Makati, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Imus, and Bacoor.
The specific areas that may be affected (as well as the duration of the service interruptions per area) will vary on a daily basis, depending on the level of turbidity in the raw water coming from Ipo Dam. Hence, all Maynilad customers in these areas are advised to store water when supply is available.
The specific “water service availability†schedule per area will be posted soon on our social media accounts.
To mitigate the effect of our reduced production, we will continue to deploy mobile water tankers to deliver potable water to affected areas.
Please expect some discoloration in the water supply following the resumption of service. Should this happen, let water flow from your faucet for a few seconds until the water clears.
We are constantly monitoring the water quality in Ipo Dam even as we conduct system adjustments to optimize the limited supply. We apologize for the inconvenience.
