West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) and Valenzuela mayor Sherwin Gatchalian signed an agreement to facilitate the laying of an interceptor pipe system in Valenzuela that will catch wastewater from existing drainages and divert it to Maynilad’s Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for treatment.
This interceptor pipe system will prevent wastewater generated by Valenzuela households and establishments from draining untreated into the Tullahan River. Consequently, the infrastructure will help clean-up the said Manila Bay tributary and improve sanitation conditions in the area.
In the agreement, the Valenzuela LGU committed to maintain the city’s drainage systems so it will be free of obstructions, ensuring continuous flow of wastewater to Maynilad’s STP.
Present at the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement are (from left) Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) senior deputy administrator Nathaniel Santos, Maynilad COO Herbert Consunji, MWSS administrator Gerardo Esquivel Jr., Valenzuela mayor Sherwin Gatchalian, Valenzuela councilor Kate Galang-Coseteng, Valenzuela city administrator Atty. Teresita Capacillo, and Valenzuela councilor Tony Espiritu.
