Continuing its pursuit of world-class excellence in water and wastewater operations, Maynilad’s Tondo Sewerage Pumping Plant successfully passed the stringent screening for Integrated Management System (IMS) certification last November 16, 2009.
The West Zone concessionaire attained triple international standard accreditations on Quality Management (ISO 9001:2000), Environmental Management (ISO 14001:2004), and Occupational Safety and Health Management (OHSAS 18001:2007), affirming that its quality, environmental, safety and health management protocols and procedures meet international standards.
“With this IMS certification, our customers and the general public are assured that Maynilad follows a strict framework for treating wastewater. We made every effort to integrate our systems and processes because we want to continue enhancing our operational efficiencies and risk management capabilities.†said Cherubim Ocampo, Head of Maynilad’s Corporate Affairs and Public Relations.
The Tondo Sewerage Plant can treat 432 million liters per day (MLD) of wastewater – more than thrice its current processing load of 130 million liters. It covers 70% of Manila and serves more than half a million customers.
Aside from the Tondo Sewage Plant, Maynilad also utilizes the Dagat-Dagatan Sewerage Plant – an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001-certified plant that has a 13 MLD capacity – again almost more than three times its current load of 4 MLD.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the country in terms of customer base. The company provides water and wastewater services to the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area covering the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Hi-way), Caloocan, Pasay, Paranaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon and Cavite City, the towns of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite province.
