West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) plans to construct seven new water treatment plants worth around Php22 billion in the next five years, which will add more than 545 million liters per day (MLD) of water supply for distribution to customers, thus helping to reduce service interruptions.
These new water treatment plants—which will rise in Muntinlupa, Pasay, Parañaque, Cavite, and Rizal—will get raw water from various sources, including Laguna Lake, Kaliwa Dam, some rivers in Cavite province, and the treated used water discharged by the company’s Water Reclamation Facilities.
“By increasing our water production, we can better close the gap between available supply and the growing demand. This, along with sustained upgrades of our water infrastructure, will allow us to increase pressure in the pipe network and ultimately reduce service disruptions,†said Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Randolph T. Estrellado.
The construction of new water treatment plants is part of Maynilad’s five-year service enhancement program, which includes the laying of new pipelines, construction of additional pumping stations and reservoirs, replacement and repair of old pipes, construction of new Sewage Treatment Plants, and rehabilitation of existing water and wastewater facilities, among others. These form part of Maynilad’s Php219.8-billion total spending plan for 2023 to 2027.
Maynilad currently operates four new water treatment plants—two in La Mesa Compound, Quezon City, and another two at Putatan, Muntinlupa—that currently produce 2,700 MLD of potable water supply for the company’s over 9.5 million customers.
