Maynilad to decommission pipe along Mac Arthur Highway

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) will decommission next week a deteriorated 400mm primary line from Avocado St. to University Avenue, along McArthur Highway, Potrero in Malabon City. The length of the primary line is at 846 linear meters. The pipe decommissioning project will permanently address the leaks in the area and temporarily interrupt water services in certain parts of Malabon, Caloocan and Navotas from August 13 at 9 p.m. until 11 a.m. of August 14.

Among the affected barangays are Barangays 81 to 85, 132 to 134, and 142 in Caloocan, Barangays Potrero, Tugatog, Acacia, Tinajeros, Catmon, Maysilo, Santulan, Ibaba, San Augustin, Tanong, Baritan, Bayan-Bayanan, Hulong Duhat, Panghulo, Dampalit, Niugan, Concepcion, Tonsuya, and Flores in Malabon, and Barangays Tangos, Sipac Almacen, Bagumbayan North, Bagumbayan South, Navotas East, Navotas West, San Jose, San Roque,  Tanza, and Daanghari in Navotas.

Maynilad is advising the public to store enough water supply for the duration of the temporary water service interruption. Affected customers may also call the Maynilad Hotline 1626 for updates regarding the progress of the project.

Once the decommissioning project is completed, Maynilad will conduct flushing operations of its mainline which may result in slight water discolouration and some sediments in the affected areas. Customers are advised to let the water flow from their taps for a few minutes until the water supply returns to normal.

To minimize the impact of the project on vehicular traffic in the area, Maynilad scheduled the decommissioning works in the evening. Maynilad is also closely coordinating with the local government of Malabon to manage traffic flow along the project area. The work site will be fully enclosed by board-up barricades, with appropriate lighting and traffic/warning signs to help ensure public safety. Motorists and pedestrians passing through the area are also reminded to strictly observe traffic rules and road safety regulations.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base.  It is a concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
