Maynilad to complete interceptor system

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) is set to complete the laying of its interceptor pipe system along Estero de Paco in Manila this month. Running from Quirino St. to Pedro Gil St., the said infrastructure will help clean-up the said Pasig River tributary and improve the sanitation condition in the area.

The interceptor pipe system was designed to collect the wastewater of Maynilad customers that flows to the creek, preventing it from reaching the estero. The collected wastewater will then be diverted to the nearest Maynilad sewerage plant for treatment.  Around 9,000 residents in the vicinity are expected to benefit from the project.

Maynilad also aims to complete a 410 cubic meters per day (CMD) wastewater treatment plant in the Paco area by the end of the year to serve those who are not located along the interceptor pipe system.

“We are committed to doing our part to clean up the Pasig River and the tributaries feeding to it. The Estero de Paco project is just one component of our long-term, comprehensive plan,” said Ricky P. Vargas, Maynilad President and CEO.

This project is part of a comprehensive plan initiated by the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) to clean up esteros draining to the Pasig River and Manila Bay.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is a concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; Cavite City, and the towns of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
