West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is spending more than P61 million to replace 11 kilometers of old, leaking pipes in Quezon City. The project is set to improve water service to almost 20,800 people in East Fairview and East Fairview Parkhomes.
Replacing the 30-year-old pipes will also enable Maynilad to recover around 3 million liters of water per day (MLD), which is enough to supply the daily requirement of 3,000 households.
“Leaks and mainline breakages not only cause unscheduled water interruptions but can also serve as entry points for water contaminants. Our pipe replacement projects will therefore deliver better services to our consumers and safeguard their health,†said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
Maynilad is closely coordinating with the Quezon City Engineering Office and the officials of affected barangays in the project areas. To help ensure public safety, the worksites are fully enclosed by board-up barricades, with appropriate lighting and traffic/warning signs. Moreover, affected roads are immediately restored with temporary asphalt pavement to make the roads passable.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is a concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
