West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is sending four mobile water facilities to help produce potable water in the Typhoon Yolanda-stricken municipalities of Palo in Leyte, Hernani in Eastern Samar, and Concepcion and Estancia in IloIlo.
Two of the facilities can treat 26,000 liters of water per day while the other two can produce 8,000 liters of drinking water per day. The portable water treatment units use reverseosmosis (RO) and pre-filtration water purification technology, which will allow them to treat water from nearby river systems and brackish water.
Last week, Maynilad sent two portable water facilities and batches of water donations to the typhoon victims in Tacloban, Guiuan, Iloilo, Capiz, Bantayan Island, and Northern Cebu, through various government agencies and private organizations. Prior to that, Maynilad deployed additional 12,500 units of one gallon containers, 1,900 units of five gallon containers, and 500 units of 330ml bottles of potable water.
“Now that many of the roads are passable, we\’re intensifying our relief efforts so that we can help deliver potable water to more of our affected countrymen. We\’re grateful to the government and to the private organizations who have been helping us with the logistics. Bayanihan is truly in the Filipino DNA,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of thecities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; thecities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
