Maynilad pushes for water education; holds webinars for public school teachers

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad), through its education arm Maynilad Water Academy (MWA), recently hosted a webinar-workshop series for public school teachers to promote the importance of water and sanitation education.

Twenty public school teachers from Manila and San Juan participated in the virtual event, which introduced the use of Maynilad’s water and sanitation education modules as tool for online learning. This initiative corresponds with the Department of Education (DepEd)’s recent pronouncement that the WaSH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Program is a priority in the upcoming school year’s curriculum.

“MWA hopes to provide teaching-learning resource materials to more teachers this year. Water, sanitation and hygiene are vital topics for classroom discussion, especially in this time of COVID-19 pandemic, and we believe that this type of learning module should be given the priority it deserves,” said MWA Executive Director Rodora A. Gamboa.

Since its establishment in 2011, the MWA has created an environment for learning and bench-marking of best practices in water, sanitation and hygiene in the Philippines and across the world. It was previously cited by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) as a credible private institution offering highly technical and specialized training courses on water and wastewater management.

This initiative is done in partnership with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines-Museo El Deposito and the Department of Education.
