Maynilad pipelaying project in Cavite to affect motorists; 9,000 waterless households to benefit from the project

STARTING this April, Maynilad will be laying 5.5 kilometers of primary lines along E. Aguinaldo Highway in Cavite to initially connect this year some 9,000 households to surface water and significantly improve water service in Bacoor, Imus and neighbouring areas in Cavite.

The P450-million project involves the installation of a 1,400-mm primary line from the Las Piñas/Baclaran boundary of Coastal Road to Tirona Highway in Bacoor, Cavite, and a 700-mm primary line from Tirona Highway to Mambog, Imus, Cavite.

These major pipelaying works are part of Maynilad’s P1.6 Billion project to serve waterless areas in Cavite. The project is expected to generate as much as 4,500 jobs this year.

The necessary measures are being laid out to ensure the public’s safety during the project’s implementation. Maynilad is also closely coordinating with the provincial government of Cavite as well as local officials of Bacoor and Imus to manage the traffic and inconvenience that this project will cause.

According to Sisenando Lampa, Maynilad AVP for Construction, pipelaying will be done in 50-meter sections to minimize its impact on commuters and motorists taking Aguinaldo Highway. After the pipes are laid and backfilled, the damaged road will be immediately restored with temporary asphalt pavement to make the roads passable. Permanent pavement restoration shall follow after all sections have been completed and passed the required hydrotesting, flushing and disinfection of the pipes as part of the company’s quality control methods.

“We will make sure that the restoration of the road conforms to the standards of DPWH and the municipalities of Bacoor and Imus,” he stressed.

Subdivisions and establishments along Aguinaldo Highway in Bacoor and Imus will finally have access to safe, reliable and affordable surface water after the pipelaying works are completed. Presently, these areas source their water from deep wells, which over the years have declined in quality and supply.
