West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) recently held wastewater management online forums dubbed “Kubeta Talks†for 17 participants, bringing the total number of customers reached to 154 since 2018—all business owners of establishments within the Manila Bay area that generate wastewater.
The online forums—titled “Kubeta Talks†to highlight the used water that customers discharge—provide information about wastewater laws and regulations, as well as management solutions for the protection of bodies of water. The forum participants are business owners in Manila with establishments that discharge wastewater to Manila Bay. Under the law, such establishments must comply with government regulations—such as passing the General Effluent Standards, getting a discharge permit, and connecting to the sewer network of an accredited service provider —to continue business operations.
“There was a need to provide our Commercial and Industrial customers with complete information about proper wastewater management. We are conducting these online forums to help them take concrete steps toward full compliance with government regulations that aim to protect our waterways from harmful effluents,†said Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Randolph T. Estrellado
Maynilad has been holding this forum in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), and the local government of Manila, in support of the continuing Supreme Court Mandamus to clean up, rehabilitate and preserve the Manila Bay.
Maynilad soon will expand the implementation of its “Kubeta Talks†forums to include other business owners who operate establishments located in other cities within its West concession area.
