West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad), in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), is launching the Philippines’ first World Water Day (WWD) 2015 Water and Sustainable Development Awards. The recognition is part of a week-long celebration from March 16 to 22 of World Water Day in coordination with government agencies and private organizations.
The awards aim to recognize champions for water and environment sustainability. Viewed as a key motivator for industry professionals, individuals, communities and organizations to sustain initiatives that address water and environment concerns, the WWD 2015 Awards is an annual recognition that seeks to inspire Filipinos to do their part in promoting greater access to clean water, as well as environmental responsibility. The initiative is also meant to create awareness on the role of water in meeting all development needs.
Says Maynilad President and CEO Ricky Vargas, “While this is the first time Maynilad will hold the WWD 2015 Water and Sustainable Development Awards, we have been leading local initiatives in conjunction with the DENR since 2011. We are excited to recognize individuals, organizations, and communities that contribute to sustainable development. We encourage everyone to participate in our week-long celebration and consider every day to be World Water Day.â€
The award itself will kick off the celebrations for the week of March 16, which will be followed by a mangrove-planting activity dubbed Plant for Life to save the Bacoor-Cañacao-Manila Bay on March 17 and 18. The 19th and the 20th will then see the water education drive of Maynilad titled WWD 2015 Daloy Dunong in Muntinlupa City and Manila.
Meanwhile, a WWD 2015 Run for Water and Sustainable Development will culminate the week-long activities on March 22, which will be held at Roxas Boulevard.
