Of the said amount, almost 3 billion pesos will be spent to construct three sewage plants in Paranaque, Muntinlupa and Valenzuela, which will have a combined wastewater treatment capacity of 203,000 cubic meters per day. Once completed, the wastewater facilities can serve over 1.13 million customers.
Other wastewater projects for implementation this year include the laying of 55 kilometres of sewer lines, the construction of conveyances, the acquisition of lots, and the rehabilitation of existing STP infrastructure. In all, Maynilad expects to generate almost 27,000 jobs from its wastewater infrastructure projects.
"Even in other parts of the world, wastewater underinvestment is a persisting challenge because of the financial, technical and logistical requirements involved. But we are doing everything we can to address this challenge in the West Zone because that is our commitment to the government and to our customers,” said Maynilad CEO and President Ricky P. Vargas.
Maynilad\’s wastewater infrastructure network currently includes 14 sewerage treatment plants, 19 pump stations, 12 lift stations and more than 500 kilometres of sewer lines.
The West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in the Cavite Province.
