Maynilad, the private water concessionaire for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, held a free sewer service connection drive in Paco Creek, Manila to promote the health and environmental benefits of being connected to a sewer line.
The registration fair aimed to encourage around 2,153 households and 155 establishments in Paco to take advantage of the water company’s offer to connect customers to its sewer lines for free. By installing sewerage facilities and urging customers to subscribe to the company’s sewerage services, Maynilad can help reduce the thousands of liters of domestic wastewater that go straight to Paco Creek, which flows to Pasig River.
The registration fair was held in coordination with the ABS-CBN Foundation for their Kapit-Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig program. The effort is also part of the company’s initiative to prioritize projects that will benefit households and establishments near Pasig River and its tributaries.
Maynilad will also construct a sewage treatment facility near Paco Creek by 2010. With a treatment capacity of 550 cubic meters per day, the Paco Sewage Treatment Plant will enable the company to serve around 500 families in addition to those who are already connected to existing sewer lines in the area.
