As part of its sports advocacy, Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) recently organized the 2nd Water Warrior Inter-Barangay Ultimate Frisbee League at the La Mesa Dam Compound in Quezon City. The event is the first grassroots program for Ultimate Frisbee in the country.
Twelve schools from Maynilad’s West Zone concession area and one from Apalit, Pampanga competed in the tournament. The competition was eventually won by the Ultimate teams from Cavite, with the Gawad Kalinga Community in Noveleta besting teams from Pool A and Sangley National High School emerging as champion for Pool B.
“We help initiate sports activities among the youth because we recognize its benefits. Through sports, our youth not only gain healthier bodies, they also develop discipline and other values essential for their future success,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
Maynilad employee-volunteers served as coaches for the participating teams, which are composed of kids from low-income households. The best athletes from this tournament will form the Water Warrior Ultimate Frisbee Team that will participate in elite competitions this 2015.
The 2nd Water Warrior Inter-Barangay Ultimate Frisbee League was supported by Smart, Mighty Sports Apparel and Accessories, CherrylumE, and the Philippine Flying Disc Association.
