Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has allotted almost Php4 billion in 2023 to reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) in the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area—a 25% increase from its NRW capital expenditure of Php3.2 billion last year.
“We are accelerating our NRW Management projects this year so that we can recover more water supply for distribution to customers, in preparation for El Niño,†said Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Randolph T. Estrellado.
As a result of its intensified water loss reduction initiatives, Maynilad was able to recover around 47 million liters per day (MLD) of water in the first quarter of 2023.This recovered volume is enough to serve the supply requirements of some 241,000 individuals.
Among the activities done to generate this recovered volume from January to March 2023 were the replacement of 31 kilometers of old pipelines and repair of 7,832 pipe leaks in Quezon City, Manila, Muntinlupa, and Las Piñas. This includes the major leak repair that Maynilad conducted along Osmeña Highway corner Zobel Roxas St. in Makati City, which yielded a water recovery of 17 MLD.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
