Maynilad helps drain flooded areas after Ondoy

Pitching in on civic efforts to restore a beleaguered city after typhoon Ondoy’s visit, Maynilad, the private water concessionaire for the West Zone, deployed its deslugding team and tankers to help dewater major roads and other areas left submerged by the typhoon.

Last September 29, a dozen of Maynilad’s 10 cubic meter vacuum tankers worked in coordination with the City Engineering Office of Manila to drain the Quezon Boulevard underpass of floodwater.  For days, water filled the underpass to the rim and blocked the access road connecting España and Dimasalang to Lawton, Manila.

Five Maynilad vacuum tankers also flushed drainages and siphoned floodwater in Marikina Market and along Balubad and St. Andrew St. in Brgy. Nangka, Marikina last October 6 and 7 after the flood failed to subside in these areas for more than a week.

Maynilad is also assisting the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in declogging drainages, waterways and main roads that were hit the hardest by the massive flooding last September 26.

Maynilad also committed to the processing of the accumulated domestic waste from the portalets being used in evacuation sites in Marikina. The collected waste will be treated at the Maynilad Dagat-Dagatan Sewerage and Sanitation Treatment facility for proper disposal.

Aside from Maynilad’s clean-up activities, the company also embarked on a relief mission to distribute potable water in sealed containers to affected areas and evacuation centers all over the metro and nearby provinces.
