Maynilad generates over 390k jobs in 15 years

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has generated approximately 397,000 jobs since its re-privatization in 2007.

The water company has spent around ₱134 billion to replace old pipes and lay new ones, upgrade water facilities, construct sewage and septage treatment plants, and develop alternate raw water sources, among other capital expenditure (Capex) projects. This required the employment of over 397,000 people, including those hired by contractors and suppliers that rely on Maynilad as their major client.

This year, Maynilad expects to spend around ₱13 billion to ₱16 billion for its Capex projects, which include the construction of new treatment plants, installation of new pipelines, rehabilitation and upgrading of existing facilities, and reinforcement works for climate change adaptation initiatives, among others.

“Notwithstanding the effects of the pandemic on our operations, we continue to implement the infrastructure projects that create job opportunities, as well as sustain the water services that stimulate the economy,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
