Maynilad enters partnership to clean up Manila Bay

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) was formally inducted as a member of LANDBANK’s Manila Bay SUNSET Partnership Program Inc. (MBSPPI), a coalition of government and private institutions committed to protect and clean up the coastal area of Manila Bay.

Maynilad sealed the partnership by signing a Memorandum of Agreement with the MBSPPI, along with other new partners, in a ceremony held along the Manila Bay coast on Roxas Boulevard in Ermita, Manila recently. As a partner, Maynilad shall integrate its existing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns on wastewater management into MBSPPI’s current initiatives to protect and clean up the Manila Bay’s coastal area.

A clean-up activity and mudball-making session also took place, in which more than 70 Maynilad employees served as volunteers. Aside from sending employee-volunteers, Maynilad also set up water drinking stations and hand-washing areas for the use of the 1,500 volunteers that turned up during the event. They collected 3,879 sacks of garbage from the Manila Bay that day.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
