West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) recently energized its P170-million Patindig Araw Pumping Station in Imus, Cavite. This facility was built to improve water pressure for more than 5,500 households in the area. From 7 pounds per square inch (psi), Maynilad customers in Imus now receive their water at a pressure level of 16 psi.
“Many of the residents in Cavite and the south still depend on unsafe and expensive deep well water. This project is meant to improve water service levels and allow us to serve more people in Cavite,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
Maynilad is set to spend more than P2.64 billion this year to expand water services in the southern portion of Metro Manila. The Patindig Araw Pumping Station is expected to bring surface water to more than 81,200 new customers once other expansion projects around Imus are completed.
Since its reprivatisation in 2007, Maynilad has built four new pumping stations while rehabilitating another five, bringing its total network of pumping stations across its concession area to 18.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is a concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; Cavite City, and the towns of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
