Maynilad completes DMA establishment program

Metro Pacific and DMCI-led Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) recently completed the establishment of 1,271 District Metered Areas (DMAs) throughout the West Zone, providing 100% DMA coverage in its concession area.

DMA establishment is the division of the entire West Zone into smaller hydraulic areas, with each area being monitored for leaks and low-pressure problems using measuring devices. This enables Maynilad to better control water supply distribution and accurately measure water losses or Non-Revenue Water (NRW).

The establishment of DMAs is a component of Maynilad’s NRW Reduction Program, which was first launched in 2008 and has since resulted in the recovery of 601 million liters of water per day, as well as the repair of 156,456 pipe leaks.

“With our concession area now fully subdivided into District Metered Areas, our capability to accurately measure water consumption is enhanced. This will allow us to determine which areas have huge water losses so we can provide appropriate interventions such as leak repairs and partial or total pipe replacements,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.

For 2013, Maynilad has allocated P2.134 billion to further reduce NRW across its concession area. These NRW reduction initiatives include meter, pressure and DMA management, active leakage control, and pipe assessment and replacement.

Maynilad is owned by the Metro Pacific Investments, Inc. (MPIC) and DMCI Holdings, Inc. (DMCIHI). It is a concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Bacoor, Cavite, and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
