A desludging team from Maynilad cleans the communal septic tank at Baseco Compound in Manila, which is used by some 300 urban poor households. The activity—done in support of the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program—will prevent harmful effluents from being released to the environment and posing a hazard to community health. Maynilad’s desludging or septic tank cleaning services are regularly offered to all areas that are not yet connected to its sewerage system. The West Zone concessionaire is also spending P1.1 billion for the rehabilitation of five esteros in Manila that drain out to Manila Bay.
