West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) marks the 8th Global Handwashing Day by visiting seven schools in Quezon City, Manila, Pasay and Parañaque from October 12 to 15 to teach 2,100 schoolchildren the proper way of washing their hands using soap and water.
Maynilad did these school rounds together with guest teachers, who are cast members of the television programs Hi-5 Philippines and Batibot. During demonstrations of proper handwashing, the teachers stressed how maintaining clean hands can help prevent the spread of diseases such as pneumonia and diarrhea. Handwashing kits were also given to the students during the activity.
“Children are especially vulnerable to diseases that may be spread by unwashed hands. Through Maynilad\’s regular participation in this global campaign, we hope to help increase the youth\’s awareness that good health starts with proper handwashing,†says Maynilad President and CEO, Ricky P. Vargas.
Maynilad is a regular partner of the United Nations Children’s Fund and the Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing with Soap in the observance of Global Handwashing Day, which is celebrated in over 1,000,000 schools in 100 countries by 200 million people.
