West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) recently marked its 10th year as a re-privatized company under new owners, Metro Pacific Investments Corp., DMCI Holdings, Inc., and Marubeni Corp.
In a span of ten years, Maynilad was able to get out of corporate rehabilitation, implement a massive ₱98.4 billion capital expenditure program, and significantly improve water and wastewater services for more than 9 million people in the West Zone.
From 32% in 2006, Maynilad customers who now have 24-hour water supply have increased to 98% by the end of 2016. Meanwhile, 100% of Maynilad customers now receive their water supply at the acceptable pressure of 7 psi—up from only 45% before re-privatization.
Within ten years, Maynilad also increased its customer base from only 6.1 million at the end of 2006 to over 9 million by December 2016. Included among these new customers are households and establishments in Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa and Cavite. Prior to Maynilad’s entry into these areas, residents were dependent on unsafe and expensive water deliveries from private deep well operators.
“We have come a long way from the financially troubled water utility that Maynilad was 10 years ago. Despite the environment of uncertainty under which we operated, our people pushed on and delivered results beyond expectations,†Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez said.
“Maynilad is now a dynamic water solutions company, with renewed focus on putting customers’ needs above all else,†said Maynilad Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan.
Maynilad is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
