Last minute reminders to affected customers

Days before implementing its Holy Week water service interruption in parts of Metro Manila and Cavite, Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is issuing some last minute reminders to its affected customers, to prevent further inconvenience due to the supply cutoff.

First, store safe and sufficient water supply. At least two days before the interruption, collect and disinfect containers that could be used to store water. It is advisable to use different sizes of containers for easier storage inside and outside the house.

Store water early so there is ample time to cover and secure the containers. Water that is not stored properly could cause contamination and water-borne diseases.

Second, be resourceful in storing water. Drums, pails and basins are not the only containers for storing water. Food containers, microwaveable plastic containers, soda bottles, ice cream containers, etc. can also be used.

To store additional water for drinking and cooking, make more ice. Plastic used for making ice can also be used to store water for drinking and brushing teeth.

Common home appliances like washing machines, air pots, blenders and rice cookers can also be used to store water.

Third, clean the house and prepare meals early. A few days before the water service interruption, cook the food that will be served from Holy Wednesday to Black Saturday. This way, the stored water need not be used for washing ingredients, pots, pans and other cooking utensils.

Fourth, prioritize the health and cleanliness of the family. Despite the limited water supply, family members should still drink at least 8 glasses of water to avoid dehydration.

Good personal hygiene should also be maintained. Store enough water for bathing, brushing teeth and washing hands.

Fifth, water discoloration may be observed once water service is restored in the affected areas. This is normal when a pipeline is newly opened.

Water discoloration is also more common in areas that are low-lying and located on the farthest end of Maynilad’s distribution line.

To address this, Maynilad will implement flushing operations until the water supply clears. Affected customers are also advised to leave their faucets open for a few minutes to clear their water and flush out the sediments.

Despite the discoloration, Maynilad’s water supply remains safe and fit drinking because it is appropriately chlorinated.
