Indigent community benefits from Maynilad project

More than 370 indigent families in Area 6, Sitio Veterans in Quezon City became the latest beneficiaries of Bayan Tubig, Maynilad’s socialized water delivery program for the poor.

Before the project, Area 6 residents were forced to pay private water vendors as much as P40 per drum or endure long lines to fetch water from two public faucets in the area.  Today, their households receive safe, reliable and affordable drinking water straight from their faucets.

“Malaking kaluwagan sa amin ang magkaroon ng sariling koneksyon ng tubig.  Bukod sa hindi na kami mahihirapang umigib, mas makakatipid na kami dahil mura ang tubig ng Maynilad kumpara sa delivery trucks,”  Area 6 resident Flavio Lasafin said.

Aside from providing the residents with individual connections, Maynilad also installed a stationary water tank in the community to ensure water supply even when pressure is low, especially in high portions of the area.

Under the Bayan Tubig program, Maynilad collaborates with community leaders in mobilizing the residents that the company could not serve under regular terms due to land-ownership problems.  The program also offers a flexible, long-term payment scheme for the service application of low-income families.
