West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) recently held a Water Safety Plan (WSP) workshop at the First Pacific Leadership Academy in Antipolo, Rizal. Aside from key officials of provincial water districts, 12 foreign representatives from Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand joined the three-day workshop which aimed to equip participants with the necessary concepts, approaches and skills to implement and sustain their own WSPs.
To strengthen the participants’ learning, they were taken on a site visit to the water supply facilities of Maynilad. All participants also received online guidance and support after the workshop.
Water safety plans detail the programs for ensuring the safety of drinking water, including risk assessment and contingency procedures in case of water contamination.
Last year, Maynilad was hailed as the Overall Winner in the Drinking Water Safety Awards of the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Water Association (IWA). The Drinking Water Safety Awards aims to recognize achievements in the effective management of drinking water quality in low and middle-income countries.
