As of 5 a.m. today, the turbidity level of the raw water from Ipo Dam entering our La Mesa Treatment Plants has improved from 866 NTU (nephelometric turbidity units) last Monday, Aug. 13, to 390 NTU. This is still way above the usual turbidity level of 10 to 15 NTU.
“Turbidity†refers to the muddiness or murkiness of the raw water, which is caused by strong habagat rains stirring up sediments in the raw water of Ipo Dam. Maynilad has reduced the water production of La Mesa Treatment Plants 1 & 2 so that the water it provides to customers still meets the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water despite the highly turbid water from Ipo Dam.
However, the reduced water production has resulted to service interruptions in portions of Bulacan (Meycauayan and Obando), Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Quezon City, Manila, Makati, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Cavite.
To maximize the limited supply and ensure that all customers will have water within a limited time daily, Maynilad will be implementing “rotational water supply availability schedules†starting today, August 15 (Wednesday).
The affected areas and their respective water supply availability schedules can be viewed on our Facebook page. This limited supply window will be implemented until August 17 (Friday), or until such time as the turbidity situation at Ipo Dam improves.
To mitigate the effect of our reduced production, we are deploying mobile water tankers to deliver potable water to affected areas.
We regret that we will not be able to normalize water supply for our affected customers until rains over the Ipo watershed stop, and the turbidity level goes down to manageable levels. But we would like to assure them that we are doing everything we can to ease the impact of our reduced water production through pressure management and water tankering.
Please expect some discoloration in the water supply following the resumption of service. Should this happen, let water flow from your faucet for a few seconds until the water clears.
