West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) was proclaimed one of the winners in the 10th National Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK) Awards of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)—a biennial award that recognizes outstanding individuals and organizations in the area of occupational safety and health.
The DOLE conferred the recognition on Maynilad’s La Mesa Treatment Plant 2 (Gold Award), Fairview-Commonwealth Business Area (Silver Award) and Central Depot Warehouse (Silver Award) under the GKK’s “Institutional Categoryâ€.
Meanwhile, the DOLE also presented a Gold Award to Maynilad Safety Head, Engr. Conrado P. Soriano, under the GKK’s “Individual Categoryâ€.
The GKK is a component of DOLE’s Zero Accident Program. Winners of the GKK are regarded as models on Occupational Safety, Health and Environment.
A total of 288 institutions and individuals competed in this year’s GKK.Â
“We strive to make Maynilad a safe and healthy workplace. This recognition from DOLE is an affirmation that our safety policies work, and that a culture of safety has become truly embedded in the way we do business,†said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
