West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) are organizing this year’s “Run for Water” fun run, in celebration of World Water Day 2016.
Around 1,500 runners from 22 government agencies and private organizations will be participating in the 3K, 5K, and 10K events, which will be held at the Marikina Sports Complex on March 20 (Sunday).
Reflecting the WWD 2016 theme “Water and Jobs,” the fun run seeks to highlight how clean water can help uplift the lives of workers and transform societies, as well as how workers in the water and water-related sectors can help ensure sufficient supply of clean water for all.
This activity is part of the week-long celebration of WWD 2016 in the Philippines, which was kicked off last March 15 with a water exhibit and a sungka tournament held at the Trinoma Activity Center. Another highlight of WWD was a Mangrove Planting in Noveleta, Cavite, held last March 18.
Culminating Maynilad’s WWD 2016 activities is the 2nd annual “World Water Day Awards” to be held at Novotel Manila Araneta Center on March 22. The awards ceremony will recognize individuals, communities, organizations, and industry professionals who have made a difference in the areas of water access, environmental responsibility, and sustainability. Maynilad pioneered the awards program last year, honoring 22 water champions from the academe, government, and the private sector.
Maynilad’s lead government partners for the 2016 WWD celebration are the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
“Maynilad is taking its partnerships with its stakeholders to the next level. Our support for World Water Day activities is just one way of expressing our unity with government and industry stakeholders in the journey to forging a more sustainable future for the next generation,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
