Billion peso Maynilad pipelaying project rushed for Muntinlupa residents

By May this year, over 22,760 households in Muntinlupa City will benefit from improved water supply from Maynilad, as the company rushes to complete a P1.7 billion pipelaying project that will complement its state-of-the-art water treatment plant in Putatan, Muntinlupa.

The pipelaying project involves the laying of 9.4 kilometers of primary lines and 63km of secondary lines to interconnect Barangays Putatan, Bayanan, Ayala Alabang, and portions of Alabang, Poblacion and Tunasan.

According to Joel delos Reyes, Technical Head of Maynilad’s Muntinlupa Business Area, the project assures 16-psi minimum pressure and 24 hours water availability for the households it serves.  At 7-psi, water can flow out of a shower at the second floor.

“The Putatan water treatment facility will produce 50 million liters of water a day (MLD) by May and by the end of the year, it can produce a total of 100 MLD.  With the additional water supply, we will be able to serve other barangays in Muntinlupa such as Sucat, Buli, Cupang, and remaining areas in Alabang, Poblacion and Tunasan,” delos Reyes added.

The Maynilad pipelaying project was hailed by Muntinlupa residents who mostly depend on deepwells and expensive  water deliveries for their water supply.

“This is like a dream come true for many of us.  I have been living here for decades and water has always been our problem, that’s why we were very excited the first time we saw Maynilad surveying and marking
our area for their pipelaying,” Charing Sy of Tunasan said.

Aside from the accelerated Muntinlupa pipelaying project, Maynilad also fast-tracked the construction of its Putatan Water Treatment Plant and Villamor Pumping Station last month to avert a possible water shortage in its concession area should El Nino worsen.  With the completion of these water supply and distribution projects, the company will have the capacity to draw and treat water from an alternate source, pump water to elevated areas in Parañaque and Muntinlupa, and deliver surface water to more residents in the South.

Maynilad serves over 7 million customers in Metro Manila and parts of Cavite.  Its concession area includes the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Hi-way), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila, and the municipalities of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite Province.
