Maynilad to adjust water tariff by August

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) recently granted Maynilad a Foreign Currency Differential Adjustment (FCDA) for the 3rd quarter of 2017 equivalent to 0.80% of the Average Basic Charge of P 34.51/cu.m., or P 0.27/cu.m. This adjustment shall be effective on August 13, 2017.

For Maynilad customers consuming an average of 10 cu.m. per month or less, the adjustment will translate to an increase of P 0.13 in their monthly water bill. Those consuming 20 cu.m. per month will see a monthly bill increase of P 0.48, while those consuming 30 cu.m. per month will have an additional P 0.99 in their monthly bill.

FCDA is a tariff mechanism granted to water concessionaires to allow it to recover losses or give back gains arising from the fluctuating movements of the peso against other currencies. This is because Maynilad pays foreign currency-denominated Concession Fees to the MWSS, as well as loans to fund service improvement projects that will expand and upgrade water and wastewater services for its customers in the West Zone.

Moreover, the company is sustaining its program to reduce water losses or non-revenue water and bring the supply to the underserved or unserved sectors in the West Zone. Maynilad is also accelerating its sewerage and sanitation programs that will reduce pollution load in waterways.

Maynilad is an agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain areas), Quezon City (certain areas), Makati (certain areas), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon—all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario—all in Cavite Province.
