Maynilad recognized for energy management efficiency

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) was recently recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE), through its prestigious Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards, for its energy conservation programs.

Two Maynilad facilities, PAGCOR Pumping Station and La Mesa Treatment Plant 2, bagged “Outstanding Awards” after showing a significant decrease in energy consumption per volume of production. “Outstanding Energy Manager Awards” were also given to Maynilad’s Michael Joseph R. Buligan (PAGCOR Pumping Station) and John Jerald H. De Jesus (La Mesa Treatment Plant 2) for their role in reducing the said facilities’ energy consumption.

Moreover, Maynilad was one of only three companies awarded a Certificate of Recognition for having an Energy Management System certified on the ISO 50001:2011 standard.

“Reducing our energy consumption is not easy, given our constantly expanding service coverage. But by reviewing our processes and improving certain practices, we managed to further reduce energy use without compromising our production levels,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.

The Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards is one of the highlights of the DOE’s annual observance of the National Energy Consciousness month, held every December.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
