West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) donated five drinking fountains for LRT Line 1 stations Roosevelt, Balintawak, Monumento, Carriedo, and Baclaran.
The initiative is part of Maynilad’s GinhaWASH program, which aims to increase access to water, sanitation, and hygiene, as enshrined in the United Nations’ WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) agenda under the Sustainable Development Goals.
Maynilad, together with Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), marked the turnover of the drinking fountains in a simple ceremony held at the Roosevelt station recently. LRMC welcomed the installation of the drinking fountains as part of its ongoing effort to improve their passengers’ riding experience.
“Ready access to potable drinking water at the stations can help improve the commuting experience of the thousands of LRT-1 passengers. Through our GinhaWASH partnership with LRMC, we hope to play a part in making commuting easier and more comfortable,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
Apart from the LRT-1 stations, Maynilad also donated two GinhaWASH drinking fountains for the Philtranco Bus Terminal in Pasay City.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
