West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) donated overhead water tanks and drip irrigation systems to Barangays UPS5 (United Parañaque Subdivision 5) and BF in Parañaque, in support of the city government’s home food security program “Food Always in the Home (FAITH) Gardensâ€.
The community development initiative is intended to promote better nutrition and appreciation of organic farming in Parañaque City. It aims to augment food supply by providing a steady source of fresh vegetables for free to its poor residents, particularly the beneficiaries of the 4Ps or “Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program†of the Parañaque local government and Department of Social Welfare and Development.
“FAITH Gardens†taps resident-volunteers to regularly plant, maintain and harvest yields of the garden. Maynilad’s Parañaque Business Area, meanwhile, will provide assistance in addressing the water requirements of the gardens.
“We commit to support this initiative of the local government of Parañaque, as it aligns with Maynilad’s own effort to improve lives and promote social development,†Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez said.
The city government, together with the Department of Agriculture-Parañaque City and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), tapped Maynilad to aid in the provision of an overhead water tank for one FAITH garden in every barangay in the city. As part of its commitment to the program, Maynilad will donate and install 14 more overhead tanks and drip irrigation systems this year to meet the water requirements of each garden in the city.
