Maynilad participates in 2015 Int’l Coastal Cleanup

West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) recently joined the 30th International Coastal Cleanup Drive, which was simultaneously held in different areas within Metro Manila and several provinces.

Aside from providing water stations and water tankers during the event, Maynilad also sent 50 employee-volunteers to help in the cleanup of coastal areas, particularly at Baywalk in Manila, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay, Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA) in Las Piñas, Marine Tree Park in Navotas, and Hamilo Hotel in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Since 2010, Maynilad has been supporting this cleanup drive, which is spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine Coast Guard, and partner cities, namely: Manila, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Valenzuela, Malabon, Navotas, and Caloocan.

The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is the world’s largest volunteer effort to clean the ocean. Presidential Proclamation No. 470 was issued in 2003, declaring the third Saturday of September as ICC Day in the Philippines. Every year, volunteers clear up tons of trash from coastlines, rivers, and lakes, and record the trash they collect.

“Our employees actively participate in the ICC drive every year because we have a strong spirit of volunteerism in our company, and environmental protection is an advocacy we feel strongly about. This annual event is definitely something we will continue to support,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
