Rotating water interruptions due to pipe realignment

To give way to the flood control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) will realign its seven-foot-tall (2,200-mm diameter) primary line along Juan Luna St. corner Hermosa St. in Tondo, Manila.

This will cause rotating water service interruptions in several areas of the West Zone, ranging from 12 hours to 41 hours beginning 1 p.m. of August 10 (Monday) until 10 p.m. of August 13 (Thursday), and from 1 p.m. of August 17 (Monday) to 3 p.m. of August 18 (Tuesday).

Areas that will be affected by the rotating supply interruptions are portions of Caloocan, Manila, Pasay, Makati, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Cavite City, Bacoor City, Imus City, and the towns of Kawit, Rosario at Noveleta in Cavite.

Maynilad will take about 107 hours to stop water flow through the seven-foot-tall (2,200mm diameter) primary line, insert line stoppers to isolate the segment that will be removed, cut the pipe segment, and allow water to flow through a bypass pipeline while the new cross-under primary line is installed.

The company is implementing a three-day gap between its scheduled water supply interruptions (August 10–13 and August 17–18) so its customers can replenish their stock of water before the project is resumed.

Maynilad is realigning its water pipe because it is in the path of the interceptor drainage line of DPWH, which will be laid along Blumentritt St. so it can direct floodwaters from the northern parts of Metro Manila out to Manila Bay.

To minimize the inconvenience brought on by the pipe realignment, Maynilad is appealing to its customers to store enough water for the duration of the interruption. Those with existing overhead tanks are also advised to clean these first before using them to store water.

Meanwhile, Maynilad will have 35 water tankers on standby to serve areas that will experience prolonged interrupted supply.
