Maynilad trains 13 water operators

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad), through its Maynilad Water Academy, recently held a three-day Non-Revenue Water (NRW) management workshop for 13 local water utilities to help them reduce their water losses.

These local water utilities include Alaminos City Water District, Baliwag Water District, Bocaue Water District, Cabanatuan City Water District, Cagayan De Oro Water District, Infanta Quezon Water District, Norzagaray Water District, Pagsanjan Water District, Puerto Princesa City Water District, Sorsogon City Water District, Zamboanga City Water District, Subic Water & Sewerage Co., Inc. (Subic Water) and Calapan Water.
“Reducing non-revenue water has always been a challenge to many water utilities today. Through this workshop, we hope that more water districts and companies can benefit from Maynilad’s experience in handling NRW,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky Vargas.

Bocaue Water District General Manager Ricardo B. Perez, on the other hand, emphasized that “this seminar is a must for all water district employees to really understand the value of saving the most important resource which is potable water.”
Since the NRW management program was established, Maynilad has invested heavily on the repair of old, inherited water distribution lines. As a result, Maynilad was able to reduce its water loss from 66% in 2006 to 38 % as of June 2013.
The significant reduction can also be attributed to Maynilad’s use of state-of-the-art leak detection equipment resulting to the repair of more than 45,000 leaks since 2008.

Furthermore, Maynilad completed the establishment of 1,271 District Metered Areas (DMAs), which provides 100% DMA coverage of the West Zone. This development allowed the West Zone concessionaire to effectively monitor leaks and identify causes of low water pressure by using advanced measuring technologies.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base.  It is a concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
