Maynilad completes 11 STPs

In line with its goal of expanding sewerage coverage in the West Zone, Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) constructed 11 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in 2012, bringing its total number of sewage facilities to 14.

Located at Congressional, Grant, Legal, Tatalon, Del Monte, San Antonio, Bahay Toro, Paltok, Baesa, Tandang Sora, and A. Samson in Quezon City, the new facilities have a combined wastewater treatment capacity of 38.3 million liters per day (MLD), and cost P2 Billion to construct. Over 300,000 people living in the vicinity will benefit from the projects.

Complementing its sewerage infrastructure investments is the company’s free sewer connection drive for households and establishments located along waterways that drain into the Pasig River. Last year, Maynilad connected 1,506 customers in Central Manila, raising its sewerage coverage to 680,000 people.

In 2012, Maynilad also provided septic tank cleaning services to some 30,600 accounts throughout the West Zone, from North Caloocan down to Cavite. Around 49,000 cubic meters of septage were collected and treated by the company since the start of the year.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is a concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malayan all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in the Cavite Province.
