Metro Pacific Investments Corporation and DMCI Holdings-led Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is spending P110 million to replace 24 kilometers of old, leaking pipes in Caloocan City. Once completed, the investment will improve water service levels for almost 55,000 people in 20 barangays in the area—from Brgys. 81 to 85 and 132 to 146.
The project is expected to increase water pressure from 10 pounds per square inch (psi) to 16 psi. The pipe replacement project will also recover around 22 million liters of water per day, which is enough to supply the daily requirement of almost 36,000 households.
“We continue to invest in the rehabilitation and replacement of the deteriorated pipes we inherited. This project is expected to prevent further loss of water, avoid water contamination, and give our customers in Caloocan the service levels they deserve,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is a concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
