Metro Pacific and DMCI-led Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is spending P118 million to replace nearly 29 kilometers of old, leaking pipes in Better Living Subdivision, Barangay Don Bosco in Parañaque City. The investment will improve water services for over 24,200 people in the area while connecting 2,484 more to Maynilad’s network.
Once completed, water supply for these areas will increase from 18 hours to 24 hours. Water pressure will also improve from 8 pounds per square inch (psi) to 16 psi.
Moreover, the pipe replacement project will recover some 12 million liters of water per day (MLD), which is enough to supply the average daily requirement of 88,800 people.
“We inherited a lot of deteriorated pipes so we really need to invest in rehabilitating and replacing them. Otherwise, our customers will not receive the water supply and service levels they deserve,†said Maynilad President and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is a concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
