Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has been distributing drinking water to some of the hardest hit areas within and outside its concession area since Wednesday last week. The company’s chairman, Manuel V. Pangilinan, even spearheaded their Sunday relief operations in Pampanga.
Around 4,000 bottled water and 1,400 pieces of 5 gallon containers with potable water were distributed to typhoon victims in Navotas, Baseco in Manila, Apalit and San Luis in Pampanga, and Malolos, Hagonoy and Calumpit in Bulacan. Five 10-cu.m. water tankers were also deployed to San Luis, Pampanga and Calumpit, Bulacan to provide over 9,000 families with clean water.
Maynilad\’s two portable water treatment equipments were also sent to Paombong and Hagonoy in Bulacan at the height of Typhoon Quiel. Drawing water from a nearby river, the company was able to produce 16,750 liters of potable water for the evacuees.
The West Zone concessionaire also deployed medical teams to Navotas and Baseco in Manila to provide first aid to wounded evacuees. The Maynilad Rescue Team likewise assisted in the successful evacuation of 50 people in Brgy. St. Francis, Calumpit, Bulacan.
"We are doing everything we can to help out the typhoon victims. We have even committed our portable water treatment facilities to Bulacan until October 5 to address the evacuees\’ immediate requirement for potable water," said Ricky Vargas, Maynilad President and CEO.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is a concessionaire of the MWSS for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; Cavite City, and the towns of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
