New Maynilad president Victorico P. Vargas recently inaugurated four new Samahang Tubig Maynilad (STM) communities in Gawad Kalinga Villages located in Phase 2, Package 9, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.
The four new STMs, composed of more than 450 households, were formed out of six Gawad Kalinga villages, namely: PMAP Village, Pharmaton Village, GlobeTM Village, Art40 Village, San Bernardino Village, and Tatler Village.
Over 400 families attended the event. Each of the families was also provided with Maynilad water jugs after the ceremony, so STM members can properly store their water for household use.
STM provides poor communities the opportunity to manage their own internal water system and earn from it at the same time. The four new STMs are currently planning to implement various community projects once they have finished paying off the remaining balances of their internal service connections. Some of the projects they have lined up include forming a village bank to benefit residents and producing rainwater harvesters.
